An Ordered Church

Titus 2:1-8

INTRODUCTION: It the truths stated in Paul’s epistle to Titus depict an orderly church, there are very few churches today that are in the proper order. We have to decide whether or not we want to be the type of church that pleases the Lord in this area.

I. THE PROBLEM STATED (Titus 1:5-16)

A. Titus’ Responsibility (Titus 1:5)

1. Left in Crete at the request of the apostle Paul
a. There are five specific scriptural references to Crete (Acts 27:7, 12, 13, 21; Titus 1:5).
b. There are two specific scripture references to the people of Crete (Acts 2:11; Titus 1:12).
c. According to Acts chapter 2, there was a population of Jews in Crete. That would make sense with the context of Paul’s epistle to Titus.

b. That he may be able to exhort and convince the gainsayers

C. The Cretians Troubles (Titus 1:10-16)

2. The nature of the Cretians (Titus 1:12-13a)
3. The opposition to the truth (Titus 1:13b-16)

II. THE SOLUTION STATED (Titus 2:1-8, 15)

A. The Man of God (Titus 2:1-8, 15)

1. Generally (Titus 2:1)
2. Specifically (Titus 2:2-8)
a. Enabling the aged men (Titus 2:2)
b. Enabling the aged women (Titus 2:3-5)
c. Enabling the young men (Titus 2:6)
3. Personally (Titus 2:7-8)
4. Ministerially (Titus 2:15)

B. The Saints (Titus 2:2-6)

1. The aged men (Titus 2:2)
2. The aged women (Titus 2:3-5)
3. The young men (Titus 2:6)

CONCLUSION: As a man of God, I have to step it up. As members of this body, you have to step it up. We have to decide whether or not we want to be a scriptural church.
