Do You Love God?

John 21:15-17

INTRODUCTION: Sadly, few people that name the name of Christ actually love the Lord. We love the idea of being saved. We love the feeling we get from claiming fellowship with Christ. We love the easing of the conscience we receive from attending church. However, at the end of the day, the Bible would call our declaration of love into question.

I. THE TOTALITY OF YOUR LOVE (Matthew 22:37; Mark 12:30, 33; Luke 10:27)

A. All thy Heart

B. All thy Soul

C. All thy Mind

D. All thy Strength

E. All the Understanding

II. THE PURITY OF YOUR LOVE (Ephesians 6:24)

A. An Approving Love (2 Corinthians 6:4, 6)

B. A Sincere Love (Ephesians 6:24)

III. THE MANIFESTATION OF YOUR LOVE

A. Obedience (John 14:15; 2 John 1:6)

B. With a Right Spirit (1 John 5:3)

IV. THE ASSURANCE OF YOUR LOVE (1 John 2:5)

A. The Perfection of the Love of God

B. The Knowledge of Our Salvation

V. THE BENEFITS OF YOUR LOVE

A. Now (John 14:21, 23; Romans 8:28)

B. Future (2 Timothy 4:8; James 1:12)

VI. THE KNOWLEDGE OF YOUR LOVE (1 Corinthians 8:3)

VII. THE DENIAL OF YOUR LOVE (1 John 2:15)

A. The Command

1. Love not the world
2. Neither the things that are in the world

B. The Demonstration

1. If any man love the world
2. The love of the Father is not in him

CONCLUSION: Since God is the Judge of all, are you willing to submit yourself to the Bible’s test of your love? Are you willing to let the scripture test the sincerity of your love?
